Regular Meeting

Vice Chairman Betty Ann Surdykowski called the meeting to order at approximately 5:40 p.m. welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from February 4, 2013 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jane Powers Weldon made motion to approve minutes; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye.

Old Business

R. Stanley Chambers stated Chairman Padgett reported at Historical Society meeting that the Resaca Battlefield project was on schedule.

R. Stanley Chambers stated he went out Dews Pond after the tornado to check on the General Nelson cemetery; he could not locate the cemetery.

David Mitchells stated there are two cemeteries located behind CJ Dodd’s house but he is not able to get into the property to check on them.

Jane Powers Weldon gave brief report of Charlie Ryan’s presentation at the historical society meeting. She stated there was a good turn out to hear his presentation.

Jane Powers Weldon informed the HPC that Joel Daily will be building a doll case for upstairs museum room at Oakleigh for remaining dolls.

Jane Powers Weldon stated Calhoun HPC approved a sign for Harris Arts Center, which will be a pole sign in the front yard and will mimic the old Rooker Hotel sign. Sign will to also be approved by the City of Calhoun.

New Business

Jane Powers Weldon made the HPC aware of an historic district in DeKalb County, Druid Hills, which is in danger of being developed on one tract of land by the current owner. She also informed the HPC of House Bill 474, Historic Preservation of Variance for Druid Hills, and encouraged the members to familiarize their selves with this bill, which would have state wide implications.

David Mitchell informed HPC members that he and R. Stanley Chambers’ terms would expire June 2013. There was brief discussion in regards to the expiring terms.


Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2013 @ 5:30 p.m. David Mitchell made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jane Powers Weldon. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:57 p.m.
