5/04/10 Regular Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 9:15 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Invocation was led by Rev. John Allen and the pledge of allegiance was led by Chairman Long.

WELCOME
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION – Employees with Anniversary Hire Dates in May
Chairman Long read the list of employees and the name of Jay Johnston was drawn as employee of the month for May.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session April 20, 2010 and the Regular Meeting April 20, 2010. Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

CONSIDERATION OF OLD BUSINESS

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

  • PROCLAMATION FOR PEACE OFFICER MEMORIAL WEEK
    Chairman Long read the proclamation into the record. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the Proclamation. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, Townsend and Hood voted aye. Motion passed.
  • SUBMITTAL OF THE RECOMMENDED FY 2010-2011 ANNUAL BUDGET
    County Administrator Dowling advised that the Board has a copy of the recommended annual budget. The required public hearing will be June 1, 2010 and the adoption schedule is for June 15 during the June Commission meetings.
  • CONSIDERATION OF PARTICIPATING IN THE GEORGIA COUNTY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM SPONSORED BY ACCG
    Administrator Dowling advised the Board that this is for Board consideration of participating in the Georgia County Internship Program sponsored by ACCG. ACCG has received a federal grant for $250,000 to give every County at least one intern for free, $7.25 an hour for 20 hours per week for 8 weeks during the Summer between now and September. If the Board wishes we can participate in this program, prepare a project, get an ad out and get a student for 20 hours a week for 8 weeks. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve participation in the internship program. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Townsend, and Hood voted aye. Motion passed.
  • TERMINATION OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AND AMENDMENT TO INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES REGARDING THE RESACA HISTORIC SITE
    Chairman Long advised that the Board has discussed this item in the Work Session and called for a motion. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to terminate the construction contract and amend the intergovernmental agreement. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Townsend and Hood voted aye. Motion passed.
  • RESOLUTION AMENDING CREATION OF THE GORDON/FLOYD JOINT DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
    Chairman Long advised that the Board has discussed this item in the Work Session and called for a motion. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the resolution. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Townsend, and Hood voted aye. Motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Hood made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
