Gordon County Historic Preservation Commission January 4, 2013
Regular meeting
Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m.; welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from December 3, 2013 meeting were presented for review and approval. David Mitchell made motion to approve minutes; seconded by Betty Ann
Surdykowski. All voted aye.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett stated Resaca Battlefield project is moving along ahead of schedule. The start of cutting the trails in will start within the next two weeks. There is a scheduled meeting on Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 in reference to the interpretative signage. Signs should be printed and delivered to Resaca Battlefield site by the first of February. Site could possibly be open to public in April instead of the projected date of May.
Chairman Padgett stated the Fort Wayne project is almost complete. Additional grant will need to be applied for to complete the signage for Fort Wayne site.
Chairman Padgett believes the 28 Georgia has funds to erect a monument at Fort Wayne.
Chairman Padgett questioned Jane Powers Weldon if she was familiar with size of historical room of the renovated library; she stated the room will not be smaller than room that already exists. She stated bids for the library renovation project have not
been advertised as of this date.
New Business
Chairman Padgett stated he sent 2013 – 2018 goals for HPC to county administrator, Randy Dowling.
Chairman Padgett stated himself along with R. Stanley Chambers and David Mitchell will be going out Wednesday, January 9, 2013, with the GPS and locate two
cemeteries.
David Mitchell expressed his desire to speak with David Gibson in reference to possibly obtaining information on East Damascus Church.
Chairman Padgett informed HPC that Commissioner Cunningham was appointed to the historical society.
