GORDON COUNTY
PLANNING and ZONING COMMISSION MEETING
JANAUARY 9, 2023


The Gordon County Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Gordon County Administration Building for the purpose of hearing variance and zoning change requests.

Members present were: Randy Rule, Jerry Lovelace, Sabrina Poole, Tommy Hibberts, and Ken Dinning

Chairman Randy Rule called the meeting to order and advised all present of the sign-up sheets available for those who wish to address the Planning Commission on any of the zoning or variance change applications. Chairman Rule also welcomed new member Mr. Ken Dinning.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Jerry Lovelace to approve the minutes of the previous meeting of December 12, 2022. Sabrina Poole seconded the motion. All voted aye. The minutes were approved as written.

REZONING APPLICATIONS #Z22-29, HMO PROPERTIES, LLC(appl.) Mark Momon, Matt Hibberts, and Russell Owen (owners)

Chairman Rule read rezoning application #Z22-29, HMO Properties, LLC (appl), Mark Momon, Matt Hibberts, and Russell Owen (owners), requesting to rezone 12.25 acres located at 146 Shope Lake Road, Calhoun from A-1 to C-G. Mr. Momon represented the request explaining that they would like to develop a climate controlled and non climate controlled storage facility with RV and Boat Storage. They currently own Prime Storage at 410 Morrow Road and it is near max occupancy and this site would allow them to expand Prime Storage as the demand grows. The facility would be well lit, have security cameras and gate access. All adjoining property owners had been notified.

Jerry Lovelace made the motion to approve the rezoning application identified as #Z22-29 from A-1 to C-G. Tommy Hibberts seconded the motion. All voted aye. The recommendation for approval was sent to the Board of Commissioners.

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMAN

Randy Rule opened the floor for nominations for the Chairman and Vice Chairman position for the Planning Commission. Jerry Lovelace made a motion for Randy Rule to continue as Chairman. Sabrina Poole seconded the motion. All voted aye. For the Vice Chairman position, Sabrina Poole nominated Jerry Lovelace to continue as Vice Chairman, Randy Rule nominated Sabrina Poole. The vote was 3-2 for Jerry Lovelace to continue as Vice Chairman. Randy Rule will remain the Chairman and Jerry Lovelace will remain the Vice Chairman for the Gordon County Planning Commission.

ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

Mr. Derron Brown, Director or Building Planning, and Development introduced himself to the Planning Commission. Each member introduced themselves, also. There being no additional business, Sabrina Poole made the motion to adjourn. Tommy Hibberts seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting was adjourned at 6:16 p.m.
