Regular Meeting

Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:25 p.m.; welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from January 5, 2015 meeting were presented for review and approval.
Betty Ann Surdykowski made motion to approve; seconded by Alvin Long. All voted aye.

Reports

Alvin Long stated recent Historical Society meeting was very informative.

Jeff Henderson has been working on a project to locate sites of old post offices within Gordon County.

David Mitchell was contacted by a lady from Douglas County in regards to Neal Cemetery located on Pine Chapel Road. David Mitchell received coordinates from Chairman Padgett and forwarded coordinates for the cemetery along with directions.

Chairman Padgett informed HPC of book to be released by Historical Society of old homes in Gordon County. Book will be released soon and be available for purchase.

Chairman Padgett stated Dalton Civil War Show will be held this upcoming weekend.

Chairman Padgett passed out Gordon County map depicting Gordon County historical destinations. (handout filed with minutes)

Funds are currently being raised for 123rd New York Monument, to be located in Resaca, near one of the battle points.

Resaca House, currently located on outskirts of Atlanta, was dismantled from Resaca in 1940’s and relocated to Atlanta and reassembled. House is currently on the market to be sold for approximately 1.3 million dollars.

Historical Society will be having a medical display located in the new conference room; date has not been set yet. Next scheduled Historical Society meeting is Thursday, February 19 @ 7 p.m. at Calhoun Depot. Covered dish dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

New Business

Jeff Henderson questioned usage of new county mapping system. Ursula Desrosier stated new mapping system is being updated.

David Mitchell suggested HPC put a map in the library with list of cemeteries.

Adjournment

Next scheduled meeting is Monday, March 2, 2015 @ 5:30 p.m. Alvin Long made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jeff Henderson. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:43 p.m.
