Regular Meeting

Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from December 2, 2013 meeting were presented for review and approval. Alvin Long made motion to approve, seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.

Unfinished Business & Reports

HPC members discussed the upcoming 150th Commemorations. HPC members agreed to try and schedule a meeting on February 19th with surrounding authorities that would potentially like to be involved with the 150th Commemoration Celebrations.

Chairman Padgett informed HPC members of the completion of Resaca Battlefield. Still awaiting creek restoration and Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) engineer group still needs to provide an up to date change up plan of everything that was changed from the original plans before Gordon County Board Commissioners will accept the park. Plan needs to be presented to Gordon County by March 15, 2014.

Jeff Henderson stated site looks great. The road and 6 ½ miles of trails are complete; building and interpretative signs are in place.

Jane Powers Weldon will resend notice to try and gain more involvement into HPC Network. She will contact Leigh Burns in reference to possibly having quarterly meetings with interested parties within the HPC Network.

Jane Powers Weldon stated Calhoun HPC is beginning to enforce sign ordinance within downtown historic district.

Gordon County Historical Society is scheduling a board meeting within the week. Doll room no longer exists and remodeling is underway.

HPC members discussed 2013-2018 established goals:

  • Cemetery project is almost complete
  • Jane Powers Weldon will contact Dan Latham and/or Leigh Burns in reference to informing HPC members of Georgia Historic Registry Guidelines

HPC members briefly discussed benefits of having property listed on historic registry along with properties listed on historic registry.

Chairman Padgett will contact Leigh Burns in regards to available training seminars.

Ursula Desrosier stated there is no current HPC training available. She also gave HPC members a copy of current budget denoting how much funding is available for training. (Copy of budget filed with minutes)

New Business

Betty Ann Surdykowski provided HPC members with a survey from Chamber of Commerce to be completed. She encouraged each member to complete and return survey to Chamber of Commerce.

Chairman Padgett shared copies of old photos of Resaca homes with HPC members. Original photos have been turned over to Atlanta History Center.

Adjournment

Next meeting is scheduled for March 3, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. Alvin Long made motion to adjourn; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:22 pm.
