County Administrator Ledbetter discussed the agenda items listed on the Regular Meeting Agenda for the Board Members. One item was added to the agenda for the Contract with Momon Construction on the pavilion and site work at the Gordon County Recreation.
Mrs. Shea Hicks, Chairperson for the Board of Election and Voter Registration, came before the Board to advise the Board of Commissioners about several issues regarding this election year and the new State mandated equipment that is arriving shortly in Gordon County. The equipment is requiring more space and storage that must be under the election Superintendent’s supervision, thus requiring the office to move to a larger space. Administrator Ledbetter advised the Commissioners that this new equipment requires about 3,000 sq. ft. of space. The County has space available in the Courthouse annex building on the first floor. This space has been designated as a SPLOST renovation project that will be undertaken the first of 2021 and until then could be available for a temporary solution for space for the Board of Elections to get us through the 2020 Presidential election. This would save the County several thousands of dollars and this would give the County time to plan for a permanent space solution for this department. This space meets the requirements of storage, security and electrical for the new election equipment, and early voting. There was a consensus of the Board members to allow the Administrator to arrange for use of the available space for the Board of Elections and Voter Registration.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 6:06 p.m.
