APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Jerry Lovelace to approve the minutes of the previous meeting of February 13, 2017. Butch Layson seconded the motion. All voted aye. The minutes were approved as written.
VARIANCE APPLICATION #V17-02, TED KING (APPL: PATRICK DAVIS)
Chairman Rule read variance application #V17-02, Ted King (appl: Patrick Davis) for a 15.28 acre tract located at the corner of Union Grove Road and Belwood Road, Calhoun. Rick Shuffield, the Vice-President of real estate developing with Love Travel Stops, represented the application to address the signage needs for the future Love Truck Plaza. The high-rise interstate sign needs to be 185 feet in height and 932.50 in square feet and on the directional signage they need to be 8 feet in height and 32.67 in square feet on a total of 3 signs. Also, an additional monument sign not included in the original request, a sign on Union Grove Road to be 25 feet in height and 120 in square feet. On the interstate high-rise sign, the reason for these needs are for interstate utilization so traffic can see the sign over the tree line and be able to safely move over to exit the interstate. On the directional signs, the trucks need the signs to be taller so it will be clear where they should go and not go into the entrance where the automobiles should go. He added that the glare from the signs should not be a nuisance for residents since the closest home is ½ mile to the north. All adjoining property owners had been notified.
Ursula Richardson, Zoning Administrator for Gordon County, recommended that the variance request identified as Application #V17-02 be approved on all requests including the additional sign.
Jerry Lovelace made the motion to approve the variance request identified as Application #V17-02 as requested including the additional sign and amend the ULDC. Nathan Serritt seconded the motion. All voted aye. The variance was granted. The thirty-(30) day appeal period was explained.
VARIANCE APPLICATION #V17-03, NIRAV PATEL (APPL: ZAHID RASHID)
Chairman Rule read variance application #V17-03, Nirav Patel (appl: Zahid Rashid) for a 2 acre tract located at 110 Shope Lake Road, Calhoun. Mr. Rashid had spoke with Ursula Richardson, Zoning Administrator for Gordon County and told her he had forgotten about the meeting and asks to table until the April meeting. All voted aye to table until the April 10, 2017 meeting.

There being no additional business, Eddie Smith made the motion to adjourn. Nathan Serritt seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
