Regular Meeting

Vice Chairman Surdykowski called the meeting to order at approximately 5:35 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from March 4, 2013 meeting were presented for review and approval. David Mitchell made motion to approve minutes; seconded by R. Stanley Chambers. All voted aye.

Unfinished Business

No update available for Resaca Battlefield Park project.

R. Stanley Chambers stated he spoke with a worker of the Fort Wayne Project, who stated the project is running on schedule.

Betty Ann Surdykowski stated there are numerous articles out regarding the 2014 Civil War Celebration.

No new updates available for cemetery project. Betty Ann Surdykowski questioned how many cemeteries have been visited; R. Stanley Chambers stated approximately 180.

Betty Ann Surdykowski thanked David Mitchell and R. Stanley Chambers for all their time and effort they have put into the cemetery project.

Betty Ann Surdykowksi informed HPC members that House Bill 474, which was discussed at last month’s meeting, had died at the Senate level.

New Business

David Mitchell was questioned by a citizen on the process of the Old Sugar Valley School being designated as an historical site and/or be listed on the National Historic Register. Alumni members are trying to raise money to preserve the school. Betty Ann Surdykowski stated she will research guidelines for the school being listed on the register.

There was brief discussion to which school building still standing in Gordon County is the oldest.

Betty Ann Surdykowski received a notice from Jeff Henderson in reference to the SCV Camps, Friends of Resaca and Historical Society’s Resaca Cemetery clean up day on Saturday, April 13, 2013 @ 9:00 a.m., rain or shine. All invited to attend.

R. Stanley Chambers informed HPC members of Confederate Memorial Day Service at the end of April.

Brief discussion to upcoming Battle of Resaca, which will be held the third weekend in May.

Betty Ann Surdykowski stated she will contact Ursula Desrosier in regards to R. Stanley Chamber’s HPC term expiring in June.

Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 6, 2013 @ 5:30 p.m.. R. Stanley Chambers made motion to adjourn; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:59 p.m..
