Meeting Minutes for April 4, 2022

Regular Meeting
Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:15 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from the January 3, 2022 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jim Weaver made a motion to approve minutes; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye.
Commission Reports
Betty Ann Surdykowski informed HPC the 2022 Remembrance Removal Ride hosted by the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians was not listed on New Echota’s upcoming events. She would try to find out if the event was still taking place and let HPC know.
Jim Weaver shared a photo with HPC members of Dr. Harbin’s house, which was built in the 1800’s. The property is located at Cash Road/Pleasant Valley Road and has just been sold.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett stated improvements are needed at Resaca Battlefield Park, to include, general maintenance on trails, pavilion is dry rotted and is in need of repairs.
New Business
Interpretative Sign Request, made by Georgia Civil War Commission, for signage at Resaca Battlefield Park will be discussed at next HPC meeting.
Friends of Resaca Battlefield met on April 1, 2022 and approved $1,000 to replace trail marker signs that were stolen from the Fort Wayne site.
Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, May 2022 Community Magazine, will showcase an article on historic tourism in the area.
Gary Alderman, Chief Historian, did a video shoot at Resaca Battlefield Park on March 28, 2022. Video will be aired on American Battlefield Trust website, www.battlefields.org.
Sandy Padgett will confer with Ursula Richardson regarding meeting location for future HPC meetings and inform HPC commission on location.
American Battlefield Trust Park Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, 2022.
Jim Weaver questioned if anyone knew if the Experiment Station located on Nesbitt Loop, recently purchased by the Hunts, has any historic nature attached to it. Chairman Padgett stated he was unaware and there were also no historic protection overlays within the county in that area.

Chairman Padgett stated the next HPC will be determined and members will be notified via email. David Mitchell made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jim Weaver. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:35 p.m.
