GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR SESSION MINUTES
APRIL 11, 2017
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION – Employees with Anniversary Hire Dates in April
Commissioner Cunningham read the list of employees with anniversary hire dates in April. Commissioner Steward drew the name of Dale Silvers, employed 19 years with the Road Department.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Hood asked if there are any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session March 21, 2017, Regular Meeting March 21, 2017, and Special Meeting March 31, 2017. Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and Commissioners Cunningham, Sexton, Owens and Steward voted aye. Motion approved.
ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT
County Administrator King read the report (copy attached).
COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT
Commissioner Owens reported that he attended the General Administration Committee meeting, met with other members that sit on the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, and attended the Government Plaza dedication. Commissioner Sexton reported that he also attended the Government Plaza dedication, and the presentations with architects for renovation of the courthouse. Commissioner Steward attended the Gorvernment Plaza dedication, the architects presentations, budget hearings with the Sheriff’s Department, Magistrate Judge, also County School Superintendant and Finance Director, and the Development Authority meeting, also attended a joint meeting between College & Career Academy and the County School Board. Chairman Hood commented that she and the County Attorney have been in talks with the Board of Regents.

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS
REQUEST FROM THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION TO APPROVE GORDON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOLDING A LUNCHEON AND MEETING FOR THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM AT THE RESACA BATTLEFIELD HISTORIC SITE ON MAY 9, 2017
Chairman Hood advised that this is a request from the Historic Preservation Commission to get Board approval for the Gordon County Chamber to hold a luncheon and meeting at the Resaca Battlefield on May 9th for the Georgia Department of Economic Development team.
Commissioner Owens made a motion to approve the request. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and Commissioners Steward, Cunningham, Owens and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.
APPOINTMENT TO THE GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH FOR HOWARD ASHLEY FOR A SIX YEAR TERM ENDING DECEMBER 31, 2022
Chairman Hood advised that this is an appointment to the Gordon County Board of Health for Howard Ashley for a six year term ending December 31, 2022.
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to approve the appointment of Howard Ashley to the Board of Health. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and Commissioners Owens, Sexton, Cunningham, and Steward voted aye. Motion passed.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Steward made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:23 p.m.
