Regular Meeting

Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:25 p.m. welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from April 3, 2017 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye.

Commission Reports

Jeff Henderson stated there was a good turnout for Confederate Memorial Day, Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Resaca Confederate Cemetery. A banjo player was on site that played Dixie.

David Mitchell is still working on finding someone to locate pins at Nelson Cemetery.

Chairman Padgett stated there was some riders who visited the Cemetery a few weeks ago whom the Chamber of Commerce brought in.

Betty Ann Surdykowski shared two informational handouts that will be on hand at the Chamber of Commerce regarding Battle of Resaca.

Unfinished Business

Chairman Padgett spoke with Jim Ledbetter regarding placing Resaca Confederate Cemetery and Chitwood Farm Easement in an historic district to offer extra protection. There is no further protection needed for the two areas.

Chairman Padgett stated parks have been heavily visited. The park staff is doing an excellent job maintaining the parks.

No further information obtained regarding Resaca Sewer project as of this date.

On April 11, 2017 Board of Commissioners approved Georgia Department of Economic Development request to visit Resaca Battlefield Site on Tuesday May 9, 2017.

Green Way/Blue Way master plan has been updated since HPC April 3, 2017 meeting. Don Holley stated the plan is 95% city areas with a small section around Ashworth/Gordon Central included within the County.

Jeff Henderson and Jim Weaver and will be attending upcoming HPC training in Madison, Georgia.

New Business

Chairman Padgett introduced Barry Caudle, Southern Paranormal Investigators, to HPC. Southern Paranormal Investigators did a tour at Resaca Battlefield Site earlier this year. Barry Caudle expressed his appreciation to the HPC for allowing him and his team to visit the Battlefield Site. Chairman Padgett stated the team acted very professional and he was impressed. Barry Caudle presented a brief overview of their findings to the HPC and guests present. (photos submitted by SPI are included with minutes).

Adjournment

Chairman Padgett stated next scheduled meeting is Monday, June 5, 2017 @ 5:30 p.m.. David Mitchell made motion to adjourn; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 6:04 p.m.
