5/7/2013 BOC Work Session Minutes
GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION MINUTES
MAY 7, 2013
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
The Board discussed each item on the agenda and made no changes or additions.
Sheriff Mitch Ralston spoke to the Board concerning an item on his requested budget for fiscal year 2013/2014 regarding security at the Resaca Battlefield Park and the Fort Wayne Park. The Sheriff advised that he had included two positions in his budget for fiscal year 2013/2014, but if the Board’s plans did not include security for those parks, then he asked that the two positions be taken out of his budget. He stated that the two positions were asked for in his budget request solely for security for those two parks.
Commissioner Sexton advised the Board that he attended some of the additional sessions at the ACCG Annual meeting in Savannah, one of which was concerning how the Affordable Care Act commonly called Obamacare would affect companies. The State of Georgia will go under a federal deal as far as applying for insurance, the State did not set up a State exchange, the federal government will set it up. Depending on number of employees a company has that are not covered by health insurance, their monthly penalty would be anywhere between $162 to $275 per employee, not tax deductible. If no one in the company applies to the exchange, there is no penalty, but if even one employee applies, then every employee is counted. The county would be affected because our part-time employees are not covered under the county’s employee health insurance.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to adjourn the Work Session, Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
