The Board of Commissioners met for the Work Session in the Conference Room of the Administration Building at 5:45 p.m.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
County Administrator explained the four zoning applications and each Old and New Business item on the Regular Meeting agenda to the Board members.
Mark Shamblin came before the Board to give an update on his engineering and design work on Harbor Road, Mt. Olive Church Road, Doe Lane, and Trimble Hollow Road. Regarding Harbor Road the pipe that was there was undersized, the fastest and most economical way to replace that is with a bridge. Drilling for the foundation is tomorrow morning, the base is rock. On Mt. Olive Church Road, Mr. Shamblin advised that the pre-construction notification of the Corp of Engineers is ready. The State buffer requirement issue with the upper and lower lakes are probably a couple of weeks out, we should get all that environmental stuff completed by June and have the county ready to go by mid-summer to start the work on Mount Olive. On Doe Lane, they met with the homeowners and everyone seems to be on board. We cannot get that water out of that bowl. We are going to enlarge the pond on the undeveloped side of the street and put some of the dirt on the front yards across the street, hopefully when it rains the road will be higher and emergency service can get to them and the mail and other things, and it won’t be under water. On Trimble Hollow Road they have prepared a preliminary design and have discussed with D.O.T. He also suggested that the Board send a letter to the Department of Transportation to ask them to participate financially through additional LMIG funds, supplemental LMIG funds, not the normal LMIG program funds. These are funds that the D.O.T. has discretionary that are economic development driven. Administrator Ledbetter advised that Terry Brumlow has sent him a draft letter and he asked if the Board agrees that he ask the Governor for additional LMIG funds, there was a consensus of the Board to send that letter requesting LMIG funds.
Commissioner Potts made a motion to close the Work Session. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 6:09 p.m.
