Unfinished Business

Sneak preview of Resaca Battlefield Park took place on May 16-18, 2014 and received good feedback from those individuals who visited the park. The main concern from the general public and reenactors was safety issues, mainly trail system not properly marked for emergency situations.  Meeting was held on May 17th with Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to address safety concerns; Chairman Padgett did not have any feed back to report to HPC from the May 17th meeting.

Chairman Padgett stated media rated the Battle of Resaca as one of the top 3 events in the country.

Chairman Padgett encouraged HPC members to stop by and look at the Gordon County Historical Society building, specifically the new meeting room and back porch. Back porch is almost complete, waiting installation of railing. Jeff Henderson stated Historic Society celebrated Jim Lay’s 80th birthday with a surprise party.

Jane Powers Weldon stated Calhoun HPC has upcoming meeting on Wednesday, June 4th, 2014, touring the new lofts.

New Business

Two HPC members are up for reappointment, Kenny Padgett and Jane Powers Weldon. Kenny Padgett would serve another term if reappointed. Jane Powers Weldon does not desire to serve another term. HPC briefly discussed terms and term limits of HPC members.

Chairman Padgett stated officers for HPC need to be nominated for upcoming year.  Nominations will be tabled until next meeting, July 7, 2014.

Adjournment

Chairman Padgett stated next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 7, 2014. Jane Powers Weldon made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jeff Henderson. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:49 p.m.
