Regular Meeting

Vice Chairman Surdykowski called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m. welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from May 1, 2017 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve; seconded by Jim Weaver. All voted aye.

Commission Reports

Jeff Henderson and Jim Weaver gave brief overview of HPC training both attended in Madison, Georgia in May.

Unfinished Business

Vice Chairman Surdykowski spoke with Don Holley, Gordon County Parks Director, he stated park visitation has increased.

On May 9, 2017 Georgia Department of Economic Development had 9 representatives come to Gordon County for 2 days to tour the county and tourism sites. Ontario Finch, Ringgold State Visitor’s Center, contacted Sarah Husser with Gordon County Chamber of Commerce and let her know the 2 day tour was very beneficial and the group was treated very well during their stay in Gordon County.

Jeff Henderson stated Johnny Meadows, State Representative, spoke at the last Gordon County Historical Society meeting and Mr. Meadows stated he requested monies in the upcoming budget year for funding the museum in Resaca.

Southern Paranormal Investigators would like to come back at a later date to be determined to visit the Confederate Cemetery.

New Business

Chairman Padgett forwarded email to HPC regarding The General train display (email filed with minutes). Vice Chairman Surdykowski spoke with Chairman Padgett this morning and informed her that the train display is currently being housed in Gordon County.

Jeff Henderson stated the City of Resaca has purchased Civil War relics from a local citizen.


Next meeting is scheduled for Monday July 3, 2017 at 5:30 p.m . Jim Weaver made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jeff Henderson. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:50 p.m.
