APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Randy Rule to approve the minutes of the previous meeting of April 10, 2013. Walter “Butch” Layson seconded the motion. All voted aye. The minutes were approved as written.

VARIANCE APPLICATION #V13-03, TRICORP INVESTMENTS

Chairman Rains read variance application #V13-03, Tricorp Investments, requesting to construct two free standing signs sized at 99 square feet each and each be 30 feet in height. Caroline Mellick, with Caldwell Banker/Kinard Realty in Calhoun, GA, represented the request explaining that Church’s Fried Chicken was interested in this property and that the building would face Highway 53 but that there would be an entrance and signage on both Highway 53 and 41. The signage for Church’s is all the same size. All adjoining property owners had been notified.

The Planning Staff for Gordon County, recommended that the variance request identified as Application #V13-03 be approved with the stipulations that being located within the City of Calhoun limits, it does not exceed the standard of the City which allows one maximum 120 square foot freestanding sign for each property frontage on said highways and not to exceed 25 feet in height, so that the signs are in conformity. Ms. Mellick stated that would be acceptable and added that it would be up to the Georgia D.O.T. on the distance where the signs could be placed from the highways.

Walter “Butch” Layson made the motion to approve the variance identified as #V13-03 to comply with the City of Calhoun’s ordinance on signage sizes and heights as recommended by the Planning Staff. Ron Free seconded the motion. The vote was 3-0 to approve as recommended. The thirty- (30) day appeal period was explained.

ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

There being no additional business, Ron Free made the motion to adjourn. Walter “Butch” Layson seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting was adjourned at 6:26 p.m.
