Brown (applicant) and B&J Development Co., LLC (owner), requesting to rezone a 3-acre tract located at the Southeast corner of Cash Road and Old Boone Ford Road, Calhoun from RA-1 to C-G. Mr. Brown represented the request explaining that he wants to purchase this property, contingent to the zoning request being granted, and then develop an indoor and outdoor mini-storage facility. He also stated that he lives next door to this site, that there would no restrooms at this facility, that he is working with the Gordon County Public Works Dept. on the commercial right-of-way entrance, and that he was not aware of any covenants in the area. All adjoining property owners had been notified.
Area and adjoining property owners spoke in opposition to the rezoning with concerns such as unwanted crime, lowering property values, run-off that is already an issue with heavy rains, and just generally being an eyesore in the middle of agricultural and residential properties. Those speaking in opposition were: Ben Worley, Diane Wilson, George Wilson, Heath Smith, Tyler Kniss, and Dan Santiago. Mr. Brown closed in saying that he does not want to cause problems with his neighbors, that he had managed rentals before moving from Indiana and he believes that if managed correctly there would not be any of the problems mentioned by those in opposition. He stated that he now has second thoughts on doing this development. Randy Rule ask Mr. Brown did he want to withdraw the application or did he want the Planning Commission to continue with the vote for their recommendation to the Board of Commissioners. Mr. Brown asks for them to continue with the vote.
