Vice Chairman Steward called the meeting to order.
County Administrator went over the zoning and the Regular Meeting Agenda items for the Board Members.
Steve Parris, Director of Public Works Department, updated the Board on his department’s procedure for pipe installation for citizens. When a citizen is putting in a driveway, the County will provide the pipe at the County’s cost and also provide the installation at less than market value. The County gets the pipe on a government contract at a reduced cost. County Administrator pointed out that we may be competing unfairly with local contractors. On the other hand, the County is also making sure that we’ve got the right kind of pipe and it meets County standards on the County’s right-of-way by doing the installation ourselves. The Public Works Director commented that we are actually losing money on this service. If the County wants to be in this business at all, then the County should be charging on par with local contractors who are charging from $800 to $1,500, we would have to raise our charge to $850.00, we are currently charging only $410. County Administrator commented, do we want to be in that business when there are private contractors out there doing it and if so, then we have to set the price. This does not take into consideration the County’s labor cost and time, that $410 is just the cost of the pipe and other materials.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
