The Board of Commissioners met for the Work Session in the Conference Room of the Administration Building at 5:30 p.m.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
County Administrator Ledbetter explained the two zoning issues and each New Business item on the Regular Meeting agenda to the Board members.
Ms. Rebecca Lanier, owner of Mulligans at Fields Ferry golf course, came before the Board to request that the Board members place an issue on the ballot to authorize Sunday alcohol sales in Gordon County. Ms. Lanier stressed that it has been nearly 10 years since the county residents were asked to vote on the issue of Sunday alcohol sales in the County. The City of Calhoun allows stores to sell on Sunday and it is hurting the small businesses in the County who are missing out on those sales. She said the recent July 4th holiday was on Sunday and she turned away so many requests for the purchase of beer at the golf course. She presented to the Board a list signed by local county businesses who sell beer and wine and wish to be able to do so on Sunday. Ms. Lanier said she loses 52 days a year when her license to sell beer is useless. Also, being able to sell on Sundays will bring in more sales tax for the county.
Administrator Ledbetter spoke to the Board about a request from the HOA at the Willow Haven subdivision asking for the County to install three-way stop signs to help with speeder at two intersection locations. Following discussion by the Board members, there was a consensus to add this item to the Regular Meeting Agenda for tonight’s meeting.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to close the Work Session. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
