Gordon County Historic Preservation Commission
July 9, 2012
Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m.; welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from June 4, 2012 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jane Powers Weldon made motion to approve minutes; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett stated culvert & tile is in process of being installed at first creek, erosion barriers are up down the side of the interstate at Resaca State Battlefield site.
Fort Wayne project has slowed down due to county paving season.
Chairman Padgett received a call in reference to a cemetery on Banks Chapel Road.
Gordon County Historical Society’s next schedule meeting is in August.
Calhoun HCP has not meet; nothing to report.
Chairman Padgett stated GPS reading on historical markers project will begin Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Betty Ann Surdykowski questioned how many historical markers will be placed. Chairman Padgett stated there are approximately 28 markers in county; majority is Civil War markers.
New Business
Chairman Padgett opened discussion to short and long term goals.
Placing historic houses within Gordon County on a register was discussed. Jane Powers Weldon stated historic houses could be listed as individual sites, as well as historic churches.
There was brief discussion of various historic churches within the county.
There was brief discussion of a possible visit of the Yarborough home.
Jane Powers Weldon suggested even if properties of churches and private homes that owners don’t want to be designated as an historic district the HPC could still compile a list of those properties.
There was brief discussion to location of Trimble Hollow home sign.
David Mitchell mentioned Lancaster property close to Bartow County line and suggested someone speak with the owner and document history.
Chairman Padgett stated at upcoming August HPC meeting the commission would discuss goals further.
David Mitchell stated Boy Scout troop worked at the Old Concord Cemetery; home depot donated all materials needed for the project. He stated if anyone knows of Boy Scout looking for a project that the HPC has plenty of cemeteries to be cleaned up.
Ursula Desrosier gave a brief overview of new budget. (copy filed with minutes)
Chairman Padgett stated there is a state HCP training scheduled for this fall.
Betty Ann Surdykowski stated Judy Bailey reappointed her for another 3 year term to the HPC.

Chairman Padgett stated next meeting is Monday, August 6, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. David Mitchell made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jane Powers Weldon. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:53 p.m.
