Regular Meeting
Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:00 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from June 5, 2017 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approved minutes; seconded by Betty Ann Surydkowski. All voted aye.
New Business
Chairman Padgett made HPC aware of a new building request to be built at 1367 Newtown Church Road at the corner of Highway 225. New building would be built adjacent to existing building, Midland Communications. This property is located within the New Echota Overlay District. Jeff Poe, who is with Advanced Electrical Company, gave a brief overview of building to be built and the location. HPC and Jeff Poe briefly discussed building request. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve request to build; seconded by Jim Weaver. All voted aye.
Commission Reports
Jim Weaver stated he has access to a detector that would enable the lines at Nelson Cemetery to be checked.
Jeff Henderson stated State Representative Johnny Meadows recently spoke at the Gordon County Historical Society. Mr. Meadows stated he felt confident that monies would be in the budget for the facility.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett stated parks have been heavily visited, according to Director Don Holley.
Chairman Padgett stated the recent rains have washed out some of the trails at the Fort Wayne Site and they are in need of repair.
The General train display will be housed at the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office in the main lobby. A display cabinet with a glass enclosure is currently being built. Jeff Henderson expressed his appreciation for Sheriff Ralston and his support of history. Sheriff Ralston is also having a mural painted on the wall behind the display by local artists.
New Business
Chairman Padgett shared a request from Gordon County Parks and Recreation with the HPC regarding usage of the Battlefield Park for Cross Country Meets. The regional meet is scheduled for October 3, 2017 followed by October 13, 2017 for Gordon County Championship and October 24, 2017 for region championship meet with a rain date of October 26, 2017. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve request; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye.
Southern Paranormal Investigators will be visiting the Resaca Confederate Cemetery on Saturday, July 15, 2017.
Elections
David Mitchell nominated Kenny Padgett to remain Chairman; seconded by Jim Weaver. All voted aye.
Adjournment
Chairman Padgett stated next meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 7, 2017 @ 5:30 p.m.. Jeff Henderson made motion to adjourn; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:13 p.m..
