Vice Chairman Steward called the meeting to order.
County Administrator Ledbetter spoke to the Board regarding the Agenda for the Regular Meeting. He explained the rezoning applications and each item on the agenda for the Regular Meeting. There were no changes or additions made to the Agenda.
Administrator Ledbetter advised the Board that we have a road that is known as Pine View Drive, Pine View Way, and Pine View Road. The post office recognizes it as Pine View Way. This has become confusing for EMA, 911, and other emergency responses. We want to make this consistent, so we have to advertise it, notify some people and follow some procedures, and when that’s done, it shall henceforth be known as Pine View Way so we can eliminate that confusion.
The Administrator continued, we have also received a request for road abandonment, there is no action to be taken on it yet. The request is for .33 miles of Pearl Johnson Road after the pavement ends. I have gotten a request from all the affected landowners to close that, it basically serves timber property that is a hunting club and two other people. We have a procedure for road abandonment that will take about a month.
There is an update on the opioid litigation status. Based on data and statistics from a report shared with me by Roberta Charbonneau, opioid abuse cost Gordon County in 2013 an estimated $13,755,616 in that one year. The lawyers are on to something with this multi-state class action lawsuit to try and somehow recover those costs from these multi-billion dollar pharmacy companies, or establish drug treatments, or wherever the courts end up taking that. The County Administrator is answering a very lengthy fact sheet about Gordon County Government, our directors, who the affected parties are. For instance DEFACS, Family Connection, Gordon Hospital, the Sheriff Department and jail.
Vice Chairman Steward asked the County Administrator to go ahead and present his Administrator Report in the Work Session instead of the Regular Meeting.
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 6:00 p.m. and the Board adjourned to the Regular Meeting.
