FINANCIAL REPORT
- SPLOST AND LOST: We will present the final IGA and Resolution and request to call a referendum to the BOC on August 1. Notice of the referendum will run once per week for four weeks in the month of October. We will hold a county wide referendum on November 2 asking the voters to continue the 1% sales tax collection.
SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS AND ACTIVITY
- CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS:
- 1960s Courthouse: We hope to have an open house and move in at the end of August.
- Administration Building: Roof replacement started today.
- Public Works: A construction meeting will take place August 3.
- ORDINANCE ENFORCEMENT: Michael Lackey has joined Jim Bradford in the Ordinance Enforcement Office. Officer Lackey comes to us from the Magistrate Court where he has served as a constable for several years. He is a POST certified officer and has been attending Ordinance Enforcement training and is a level two code enforcement officer. He is continuing his training and should receive his level three certification in March 2024. Level three is the highest level of Code Enforcement Certification.
- ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: The Gordon Floyd JDA met last week and voted to enter a contract to sell 10 acres to an industrial conveyor belt company. There is another 10 acre tract under a previous contract to sell to a firm that converts food waste to fuel.
- LEGAL: Assisted Tax Assessor with an appeal of an assessment on apartments. Appeared in Magistrate Court in defense of a county department and case was dismissed. Assisted another county entity in a deposition. Sent a final decision letter in a zoning matter and met with outside special purpose counsel.
