WORK SESSION MINUTES
JULY 21, 2015


The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in the main courtroom of the Gordon County Courthouse.

Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.

The Board discussed each item on the agenda for the Regular Meeting and made no changes or additions.

County Administrator King explained to the Board the contract for the update to the hazard mitigation plan. He advised that this is a contract for professional services with North Georgia Consulting Group for the five-year update to the plan; paid for through a grant. This was placed in the budget last fiscal year but the contract was not established until this current fiscal year. This item on the agenda also involves the next item on the agenda for the budget amendment to receive the grant funds to pay for the update.

County Attorney Ledbetter advised that the item for the intergovernmental agreement with the Public Facilities Authority is to arranged for the expedited financing and to simplify the loan process for funds to purchase and renovate the old BB&T building. The Public Facilities Authority has met and approved that agreement.

Barry Hice, Director of Public Works, presented an update on his department to the Board of Commissioners. Director Hice advised that his presentation shows what Public Works is looking at for the future. Public Works is really a department name that encompasses three centers – Chert Pit, Roads, and Fleet Center. Director Hice explained the main areas of responsibility and services of each of these major centers. He also pointed out to the Board that SPLOST for roads is the main funding source for road maintenance, which is about $1.7 per year. The State LMIG grant is a little over a half million dollars. This is a state grant that comes to the counties for maintenance.

Commissioner Sexton made a motion to close the Work Session. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business the Work Session adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
