Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:14 p.m.; welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from June 7, 2021 meeting were presented for review and approval. Betty Ann Surdykowski made motion to approved minutes; seconded by Jim Weaver. All voted aye.

Commission Reports

David Mitchell inquired if there has been any update regarding the cell tower on Plainview Road. Ursula Richardson stated no permits have been applied for.

Betty Ann Surdykowski provided HPC members with a copy of a brochure from Gordon County’s bicentennial year (1976) detailing Historical Tour of Gordon County.

New Business

HPC commission discussed rezoning application # Z21-13. This application is regarding the construction of 24 broiler chicken houses (50’ x 600’ each) on property located on Evergreen Road. HPC commission states there are no known historical features on said property that would be affected by this land disturbance. While there are no historical features that would
be disturbed HPC commission is recommending that Gordon County consider changing guidelines in place for chicken house restrictions within Gordon County. (Application on file with minutes). Chairman Padgett previously emailed HPC commission pictures and description of Audubon property that is located within property of interest. (pictures/description on file with minutes).

Eddie Smith voiced his concerns with the HPC regarding the construction of the number chicken houses on this site as well as the restrictions Gordon County has in place for future construction of chicken houses within the county and would like the county to revisit the guidelines that are currently in place.

Town of Resaca is planning to open a Civil War Museum late fall of this year. Chairman Padgett and Tony Patton have been restoring the Ernest Rutledge collection that will be available for viewing at the museum.

Chairman Padgett has plans to meet with County Administrator Jim Ledbetter to discuss historical issues within Gordon County.

Next scheduled HPC meeting will be determined as business needs arise.
