8/6/2013 BOC Work Session Minutes
GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION MINUTES
AUGUST 6, 2013
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
The Board discussed each item on the agenda and made no changes; one item was added to the agenda later.
During discussion of the item on the agenda for a bid award for fire hydrants, Fire Chief Dave Hawkins spoke to the Board regarding using SPLOST money, currently accumulated and earmarked for other future SPLOST projects, to go ahead and install five years’ worth of fire hydrants. The bid award was based on a five year plan of installing a certain number of fire hydrants per year for the next five years. The Fire Chief’s suggestion was to move that forward to the first year and install all the fire hydrants in the first year.
The Board discussed the facility on Newtown Road regarding permitting social service agencies to use the space and the services that would be offered. Three proposals were submitted to the County to be considered and each representative of those proposals came before the Board to explain the plan and services they would offer, and their request for the exact space in the building that they would need. Following discussion, the Board indicated that they would consider and discuss this further at the next meeting.
Board members were given copies of the proposals received from architectural firms and from one grant writer that were submitted to the County for the 2014 CDBG for the Georgia Chambers Resource Center project. The Board will look over these for the next two weeks and will hear presentations from the architectural firms and the one grant writer at the next Work Session August 20th.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to adjourn the Work Session, Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
