WORK SESSION MINUTES
AUGUST 15, 2017
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 5:15 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.

Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
Ms. Dana Burch, County Tax Assessor, spoke to the Board to give an update on the tax digest.
The Board discussed setting the millage rate and the date for a meeting to do this in a timely manner. There was a consensus of the Board to call a Special Meeting for September 12, 2017 at 5:30 pm to set the millage rate.
County Attorney/Administrator Ledbetter discussed with the Board each item on the Agenda for the Regular Meeting and made no changes or additions.
Mr. Don Holley, Parks and Recreation Director, came before the Board and recognized two All-Star Teams who had won their 2017 GRPA State Tournaments, those were the Girls softball and the Eight and Under Boys baseball championship teams from the County’s Recreation Department.
County Attorney/Administrator Ledbetter advised the Board of a request from John Christian, the stepfather of Luke Minten, a child who was killed in an ATV accident. Mr. Christian made a request on behalf of his foundation to have the playground at the Ooky Faith Park named after Luke Minten. The late Mr. Faith is the Great Grandfather of Luke Minten. Mr. Christian also request to provide synthetic turf and safe padding under the turf installed at the playground. Mr. Christian’s foundation would also keep the playground equipment clean. Don Holley, Parks and Recreation Director, spoke to the Board and confirmed that the placement of the turf and padding would be a great addition to the playground. There was a consensus of the Board to allow the park playground be named after the child Luke Minten and to allow the foundation to place the turf and padding at the playground. The County Attorney to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding with Mr. Christian’s foundation for approval by the Board.
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to go into Executive Session for legal matters. Commissioner Owens seconded the motion and all voted aye. Executive Session began at 5:35 pm.
Commissioner Steward made a motion to adjourn the Executive Session. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and all voted aye. Executive Session adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
