8/16/2016 BOC Work Session Minutes
GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION MINUTES
AUGUST 16, 2016
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
The Board discussed each item on the agenda for the Regular Meeting and made no changes or additions.
Mr. Jimmy Moore came before the Board to request the Board implement a noise ordinance in Gordon County. He commented that he has neighbors that play loud music at night past bedtime. He has called before and the Sheriff’s Department has come, but now they are saying it is not handled by their department and should be handled by the Ordinance Officer. The Ordinance Officer advised him that he does not have an ordinance that covers this. County Attorney Ledbetter advised the Board that Mr. Moore showed him some photos that show what looks like hundreds of vehicles out there on Saturday night and there are outdoor loudspeakers. The neighbor says these are all family members. County Attorney Ledbetter advised that this needs to have more investigating attention based on what Mr. Moore has shown him. Also that he and the Code Enforcement officer will get with Mr. Moore to try to help him get some relief and make sure that the property owners are being good neighbors. Noise ordinance are difficult to define what an obnoxious noise is because it is somewhat subjective.
The Board discussed a tentative millage rate for the County and a date to hold a meeting to approve the millage rate. Following a discussion, there was a consensus of the Board to roll back the millage rate to 9.853, advertise this in the paper, and re-schedule the September 6, 2016 Regular Meeting date to September 13, 2016, at which time the Board would officially adopt the millage rate.
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to close the Work Session. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
