GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
AUGUST 19, 2014


The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday August 19, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building

Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Chairman Hood asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session August 5, 2014 and the Regular Meeting August 5, 2014. Commissioner Sexton made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT

County Administrator King read the report into the record (copy attached).

COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT

Commissioner Gazaway commented that he attended the College & Career Academy grand opening, and the Commission on Government Affairs meeting. Commissioner Sexton attended the Public Works Committee meeting, the College & Career grand opening, a parking deck meeting, and the State of the Industry breakfast. Commissioner Cunningham attended the College & Career grand opening, the Library tour, the State of the Industry breakfast, and the Public Safety committee meeting. Chairman Hood commented that she went on the tour of the new addition to the Gordon County Library.

CONSIDERATION OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS

None

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

MALT BEVERAGE, WINE, AND LIQUOR LICENSE APPLICATION FOR MAPCO EXPRESS, INC.

Chairman Hood advised that this is an application for Mapco Express for a malt beverage and wine license. This is simply a change to a new manager; this business has had a license before.

Commissioner Gazaway made a motion to approve the license application for Mapco Express. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and Commissioners Gazaway, Steward, and Hood voted aye. Commissioners Sexton and Cunningham opposed the motion. Motion passed.

APPOINTMENT TO THE LIBRARY BOARD FOR CAROL VOGEL TO FILL AN UNEXPIRED THREE-YEAR TERM ENDING JUNE 1, 2016

Chairman Hood advised that this is for Board approval for the appointment of Carol Vogel to fill an unexpired three-year term ending June 1, 2016 for the Gordon County Library Board. Ms. Vogel was recommended by the Library Board and she also ran the library in Fairmount.

Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to approve the appointment of Carol Vogel. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and Commissioners Steward, Cunningham, Gazaway and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.

RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH THE 2014 TAX LEVY

County Attorney Ledbetter advised that it is necessary to establish the tax levy so that the county can collect advalorem tax and also establishes the tax levy for the collection of the school tax. The school and the county had a slight roll back resulting in 9.747 mills for the county government and 19.406 mills for county school operations.

Commissioner Steward made a motion to approve the resolution for the tax levy. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and Commissioners Steward, Cunningham, and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.

ADJOURNMENT

Commissioner Sexton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
