WORK SESSION MINUTES
AUGUST 19, 2014
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
The Board discussed each item on the agenda and made no changes or additions.
Mrs. Sue Henson, Director of the Animal Control Department, gave an update on the changes and improvements recently made to the facility. She also advised of the changes and improvements in the operating procedures of the department. Mrs. Henson advised that her department had a total intake of about 3,000 animals in the last fiscal year. All the animals pictures are now networked on Pet Finder, Adopt-a-Pet, and posted on the Gordon County site. This gives the public and rescue groups an opportunity to view the animals that are available for adoption and rescue. Her department is on-call 24/7 on a rotating shift to assist the Georgia Environmental Health Department with rabies control, and the Department of Agriculture in animal neglect issues.
Piper O’Brien, the architect for the replacement parking deck, presented a design for a three-story parking deck. They advised that the final design should be presented in a few weeks.
Mr. Martin Vaugh, Director of Purchasing, advised the Board of the four vendors selected to submit bids to construct the replacement parking deck. The committee evaluating the vendors considered the qualification and the four selected are Brasfield & Gorrie, Lusk & Compay, RA-Lin & Associates/Fox & Brindle, and Turner Construction. A request for proposals will be delivered to the four vendors this week.
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to go into Executive Session for personnel, potential litigation, and real estate matters. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and all voted aye. Executive Session began at 4:54 p.m.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to close the Executive Session and go back into the Work Session. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and all voted aye. Executive Session ended at 5:52 p.m.
Commissioner Gazaway made a motion to close the Work Session. Commissioner Sexton seconded and all voted aye. There being no further business the Work Session adjourned at 5:53 p.m.
