Regular Meeting

Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:20 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from August 4, 2014 were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve minutes; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.

Commission Reports

Betty Ann Surdykowski provided a list of Gordon County family names, who participated in the 150th Celebration, to commission members. (list filed with minutes)
Jeff Henderson stated the 1865 People booklet will be on display at the historical society during June or July 2015.

David Mitchell stated he’s been contacted by David Brown in reference to location of Noblet Mission cemetery.
David Mitchell received two emails from Jean Chatelain, with Olibelle Farms, who has bought the old C.J. Dodd farm. She was contacting David in regards to Langston Cemetery, which is located on purchased property. Cemetery was previously damaged during 2013 Adairsville Tornado. Ms. Chatelain has been attempting to clean up the cemetery from tornado damage.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett met with County Administrator a few weeks ago regarding Resaca Battlefield Park. He stated county has decided to have an independent company come in and look at discrepancies between Gordon County and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) pertaining to the Park.

There was brief discussion regarding yearly elections for officers within the HPC.
Jeff Henderson nominated Kenny Padgett to continue as Chairman; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye. David Mitchell nominated Betty Ann Surdykowski for Vice Chairman; seconded by Kenny Padgett. All voted aye.

New Business

Chairman Padgett was contacted by an archeological group in Tennessee, who has been hired by the Brumlow family on Baugh Mountain Road, in regards to purposed TVA power lines to be located in the area. HPC briefly discussed affects from TVA power lines and cemeteries that could possibly be affected.

Adjournment

Chairman Padgett spoke with Peggy Smith, County Administration office, and she stated HPC can resume meeting at County Administration building with October meeting. Chairman Padgett questioned HPC their preference for meeting place.
Jeff Henderson made motion HPC have October meeting at Historic Society; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Next scheduled meeting is Monday, October 6, 2014 @ 5:30 p.m. at Historic Society. Betty Ann Surdykowski made motion to adjourn meeting; seconded by Jeff Henderson. All voted aye.
Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:55 p.m.
