September 3, 2013
Regular Meeting
Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from August 5, 2013 were presented for review and approval. Betty Ann Surdykowski made motion to approve minutes; seconded by Jeff Henderson. All voted aye.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett met with DNR and Randy Dowling, County Administrator, in regards to opening of the Resaca Battlefield Park. Park opening will be delayed until end of this year or early part of next year, due to project running behind schedule. Chairman Padgett stated project is 90 % complete. Projects to still be completed are federal trail system through wetland and interpretative signage put in place.
Jeff Henderson informed HPC of Matt Landry’s approval for cemetery project for his Eagle Scout badge. He will begin the project this upcoming Saturday, September 7, 2013.
Jeff Henderson stated Gordon County Historical Society is in process of obtaining estimates for finishing wall around Fain Cemetery.
New Business
Elections for upcoming year were conducted –
Jeff Henderson made a motion for Kenny Padgett remain Chairman; seconded by Jane Powers Weldon. All voted aye.
Jeff Henderson made motion to nominate Jane Powers Weldon as Vice Chairman; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.
Chairman Padgett asked HPC members to form a recommendation to present to Board of Commissioners for private use of county operated historic parks, Fort Wayne, Resaca Battlefield, and easement side of Chitwood Farm. Members will check into other public areas and have discussion at next HPC meeting. There was brief discussion pertaining to use of historic parks.
Chairman Padgett did a brief overview of 2013-2018 HPC goals that were handed out at previous meeting. There was brief discussion of goals, adding and/or changing/deleting goals listed. HPC members agreed to remove historic churches project from list. The listed historic structure project needs to have current records organized and indexed from MACTEC records.
HPC members discussed having networking meetings with other local HPC groups in the surrounding area.
Jane Powers Weldon stated her husband, Ed Weldon, received a request from a lady in Murray County, who is researching the Field family. Jane Powers Weldon questioned if this lady could use the county’s GPS database; Chairman Padgett stated that is fine.
Chairman Padgett is working on HPC By-laws, and having them in line with Board of Appeals and Planning & Zoning Commission by-laws.
Adjournment
Jane Powers Weldon will check with library to ensure meeting time can be changed from 5:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and to confirm the room at the library will still be available to meet in due to upcoming construction on library.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
