September 4, 2012


Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:35 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from August 5, 2012 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jane Powers Weldon made motion to approve minutes; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.

Unfinished Business

Chairman Padgett visited the Resaca Battlefield Park along with DNR officials. He stated the project is progressing as scheduled. Bridge is completed across the creek and will start building up roadway with field dirt.

Fort Wayne project is progressing ahead of schedule.

Cemetery project will resume this winter.

David Mitchell stated he received an email from a gentleman who lives in California who had found his wife’s great great great grandmother’s tombstone from information that David Mitchell had put on the internet on findagrave.com website.

Gordon County Historical Society’s meeting was a huge success. Historical Society will be having a silent auction to auction off the remaining dolls. Jane Powers Weldon stated open house will be Tuesday, September 11 6 pm – 8 pm, with auction beginning then along with a reception. Silent auction will resume September 12 – 14 between hours of 11 am – 4 pm.

Jane Powers Weldon stated the Streetscape project is preserving the old jail steps and stones that are currently in front of the County Administration building.

Chairman Padgett stated he has obtained several more GPS readings on historical markers; there are currently 15-20 more readings to obtain.

Chairman Padgett spoke with David Gomez in reference to the Trimble Hollow historic marker. David Gomez is researching to see what needs to be done to have the marker moved to the appropriate location.

Jane Powers Weldon questioned about the Saxon House sign. Chairman Padgett stated he would speak with David Gomez in reference to that sign as well.

New Business

David Mitchell stated he has been trying to obtain information on the original Concord church.

Chairman Padgett informed HPC of the 20th Annual Georgia Fine and Collectible Book Fair.

Adjournment

Chairman Padgett stated next meeting is Monday, October 1st @ 5:30 p.m. David Mitchell made motion to adjourn; seconded by Jane Powers Weldon. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:50 p.m.
