Historic Preservation Commission
September 8, 2015
Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:23 p.m.; welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from July 6, 2015 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve minutes; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye.
Commission Reports
Jeff Henderson informed HPC that the Regional Library Commission has approved a digital copy and possibly a video to be made of the booklet that has been on display at the Gordon County Historical Society dated July 4, 1865.
Unfinished Business
Chairman Padgett stated he spoke with David Clark (Department of Natural Resources), and was informed that Resaca Battlefield Park will be ready to turn over to Gordon County by late October. Subcontractor is in place to start work on sign, trail system, brush off roadway, and replace interpretive panels with corrected ones, (11 of 19 signs to be replaced).
Chairman Padgett stated a special unit of DNR and Georgia Forestry Commission would be conducting a controlled burn around the skull caps, endangered species, in January or February.
Chairman Padgett presented a copy of historic easement violation for review. Chairman Padgett spoke with Re-enactors Association and they are requesting guidelines in regards to easements. A group wants to place a monument for the 127th New York Infantry on the easement on the Chitwood Farm. Monument will need to be approved through Gordon County Board of Commissioners.
New Business
Chairman Padgett presented HPC with a copy of 2013-2018 goals. HPC briefly discussed goals. (included with minutes) Chairman Padgett encouraged HPC members to review goals and further discussion to take place at October meeting.
Chairman Padgett stated Commissioner Kevin Cunningham spoke with him in reference to the restoring the old arbor at Ryo Baptist Church.
