GORDON COUNTY PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION
PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 9, 2013


The Gordon County Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Gordon County Administration Building for the purpose of hearing variance and zoning change requests. Members present were:

  • Ron Free Jerry Lovelace
  • Randy Rule Butch Layson

Vice-Chairman Free called the meeting to order and advised all present of the sign-up sheets available for those who wish to address the Planning Commission on any of the zoning or variance change applications.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

A motion was made by Randy Rule to approve the minutes of the previous meeting of August 12, 2013. Jerry Lovelace seconded the motion. All voted aye. The minutes were approved as written.

VARIANCE APPLICATION #V13-08, CHARLES MICHAEL YANCEY

Vice-Chairman Free read variance application #V13-08, Charles Michael Yancey, requesting a variance on 1.50 acres located at 724 U.S. Hwy. 411, SE, Ranger to reduce the required right-of-way set-back. Mr. Yancey represented the request explaining that he had built a pole barn and was unaware that he needed a permit, which he built to close to the right-of-way, and he would like to reduce the requirements to 10 feet. Mr. Yancey has now acquired the building permit. All adjoining property owners had been notified.

Ursula Desrosier, Zoning Administrator for Gordon County, recommended the variance request identified as Application #V13-08 be approved as requested.

Randy Rule made the motion to approve the variance application identified as #V13-08 as requested. Jerry Lovelace seconded the motion. All voted aye. The variance was granted. The thirty- (30) day appeal period was explained.

VARIANCE APPLICATION #V13-09, BRIAN’S AUTO SALES, INC.

(applicant: Flipper McDaniel for Tricorp Investments)

Vice-Chairman Free read variance application #V13-09, Brian’s Auto Sales, Inc. (applicant: Flipper McDaniel for Tricorp Investments), requesting a variance on .52 acres located at 1131 S. Wall Street, Calhoun to decrease the required 10 foot perimeter building strip on three sides of the Church’s Chicken building. Mr. McDaniel represented the request explaining that the limited width of the parcel will not allow for new building without the reduction in the perimeter building strip. All adjoining property owners had been notified.

Randy Rule made the motion to approve the variance application identified as #V13-09 as requested. Butch Layson seconded the motion. All voted aye. The variance was granted. The thirty- (30) day appeal period was explained.

ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

There being no additional business, Butch Layson made the motion to adjourn. Randy Rule seconded the motion. All voted aye. The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
