GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 15, 2015
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
The Board discussed each item on the agenda for the Regular Meeting and made no changes or additions.
Fire Chief Doug Ralston and Deputy Fire Chief Byron Sutton came before the Board to perform the pinning ceremony for the fire fighters who were getting their promotions. Fire fighter Brandon Holcomb, Hugh Holcomb, Josh Howard, and Adam Dortch promoted to Sergeants; Josh Cochran, and Andrew Cornwell promoted to Lieutenants. Chairman Hood administered the oath and the members of the Board performed the pinning of the badges.
Director Tom Burgess of the Building, Planning and Development Department addressed the Board and gave an update for his department. Director Burgess showed a PowerPoint explaining the process for applying for a building permit. He explained the information about any and all documents needed to complete the requirements for acquiring a building permit; and explained that the process is not difficult but does require that certain paperwork be available for proof of ownership of affected property and the location for any building that may be planned to be placed on the property. He assured the Board and the public that his department is willing to help in any way they can to assure that an applicant is successful in acquiring a permit.
Representatives from the Gordon County Board of Education, Mendy Goble and Patricia Boswell came before the Board of Commissioners and presented an informational PowerPoint that their Board had presented to the public during their public hearings held before approval of raising the school millage rate.
The Board discussed a letter from a citizen requesting relief from paying interest owed on a property tax bill. Following discussion, there was a consensus of the Board to ask the County Attorney, Jim Ledbetter, to respond with a letter advising that the Board would not approve, nor support, the request for lower interest on the past due property tax bill.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to close the Work Session. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business the Work Session adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
