10/2/2012 BOC Work Session Minutes

GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
WORK SESSION MINUTES
OCTOBER 2, 2012

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.

Chairman Bailey called the meeting to order.

The Board discussed each item on the Agenda and made no changes to the Agenda.

The Board heard from Mr. Kenny Fuquea, the Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Fuquea spoke representing the Chamber’s Tourism Committee, regarding Project 312, the proposed project to clean up and maintain exit #312 on Interstate 75. Mr. Fuquea told the Board that the project will help encourage travelers to decide to exit Interstate 75 to eat, shop, and stay overnight in Gordon County. The benefit of more visitors is a significant increase in our sales tax and hotel/motel tax revenues. The Committee’s request is that the Gordon County Board of Commissioners, or its designee, will contact GDOT to request permission to allow Gordon County to supplement existing GDOT maintenance efforts on Exit 312. There was a consensus of the Board to help with this request.

Commissioner Long made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
