Historic Preservation Commission Minutes
October 7, 2013


Regular Meeting

Vice Chairman Weldon called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from September 3, 2013 meeting were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.

Unfinished Business

Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is doing a turnkey job in regards to the Resaca Battlefield Site, which will delay opening of site.

Jeff Henderson gave update on Matt Landry’s Eagle Scout Project. He stated Matt recruited members of his church to assist with clean up Gideon Cemetery, 15+ individuals were assisting with cleaning of the block at the cemetery. A block mason will be hired to eventually restore the wall at the cemetery.

Jane Powers Weldon stated Calhoun Historic Preservation Commission approved a sign for Mr. G’s deli, located downtown.

Jane Powers Weldon distributed a list of Historic Preservation Commission Contacts for the Northwest Georgia Area to Commission members. (List filed with minutes)
Brief discussion was held in regard to list and establishing a means of contact with those on the list.

Alvin Long made motion for Brian McClellan, Gordon County IT Director, to set up group email for Northwest Georgia Historic Preservation Commission contacts for purpose of acquiring information; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Jane Powers Weldon will make certain all contact information is correct on distribution list and inform Ursula with any changes before completing email distribution list.

Alvin Long suggested to HPC that it would be beneficial to have a sit down meeting with Chickamauga HPC, to gain insight in regards to Resaca Battlefield. HPC Members were in agreement.

Next scheduled meeting is Monday, November 4, 2013 @ 5:30 p.m. Jeff Henderson made motion to adjourn; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:48
