11/01/11 Work Session Minutes
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. in the conference room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Bailey called the meeting to order.
Stacy Long with VAC and Roberta Charbonneau with Family Connection spoke to the Board concerning The Bridge, an agency providing assistance to homeless families in Gordon County with children under the age of 18. They are currently working with nine families and there is a growing need for more families to be helped. They issued a challenge to the Board to raise $1,000 in competition with the Calhoun City Council. The Board accepted the challenge and Chairman Bailey commented that the Board plans to present the funds they raise to The Bridge at the next Commission Meeting the 15th of November.
The Board discussed each item on the agenda and made no changes or additions.
County Attorney Smith explained the Ordinance from the Gordon County Board of Health regarding Rabies Control. She explained that the Board of Health had requested the County and the City to pass this ordinance and she has placed it on the Agenda for the first reading and consideration by the Board.
Chairman Bailey commented that the last couple of years there have been no raises for County employees, and they originally had 10 furlough days that are now down to 5 furlough days. All County employees and officials have made sacrifices and made cuts to their budgets and have been impacted by the furlough days and cuts.
Sheriff Ralston had issued a statement and asked that Chairman Bailey read it into the minutes. Chairman Bailey read the statement into the record.
Commissioner Long made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
