GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR SESSION MINUTES
NOVEMBER 1, 2016
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the main courtroom of the Courthouse.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
WELCOME
Chairman Hood welcomed the 2017 Youth Leadership class to the meeting and asked each student to stand and introduce themselves and tell what school they attend. Chairman Hood asked if there were any questions from the class. Adult leader of the Class, Ms. Judy Bailey advised that the class would have questions later after they learn a little more about the Board of Commissioners. Chairman Hood called on each commissioner to tell a little bit about what the responsibilities are of the members of the Board.
EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION
Commissioner Steward read the names of employees with anniversary hire dates in November. Commissioner Cunningham drew the name of Shelba Ables as the Employee of the Month for November.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Hood asked if there are any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session October 18, 2016, and the Regular Meeting October 18, 2016. Commissioner Sexton made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and Commissioners Cunningham, Sexton, Gazaway and Steward voted aye. Motion approved.
ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT
County Administrator King read the report into the record (copy attached).
COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT
Commissioner Sexton reported that he attended the Sheriff’s luncheon. Commissioner Cunningham reported that he attended the Chamber Breakfast and toured the Gordon County Government Plaza building. Commissioner Steward attended the Lieutenant Governor’s 9th annual education summit. Commissioner Steward also took this opportunity to explain to the Youth Leadership students what SPLOST really is and how it is collected and used.
PUBLIC HEARING FOR ZONING
Commissioner Gazaway made a motion to open the public hearing for zoning. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and Commissioners Cunningham, Gazaway, Steward, and Sexton voted aye.
APPLICATION #Z16-14 CON-ONAULA FARMS, LLP REQUEST TO REZONE FROM A-1 TO I-2
County Attorney Ledbetter advised that Mr. Terry Brumlow has requested that the application for zoning be tabled.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to table the rezoning request. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and Commissioners Cunningham, Gazaway, Steward, and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.
Commissioner Gazaway made a motion to close the public hearing. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and Commissioners Steward, Cunningham, Sexton and Gazaway voted aye.
CONSIDERATION OF UNFINISHED BUSINESS
None
CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS
PROPOSAL AWARD FOR PREPARATION OF A GREEN WAY AND BLUE WAY MASTER PLAN AND FEASIBILITY STUDY
County Administrator King advised that this is for a bid award to Kaizen Collaborative for a price of $50,000 for the Green way and Blue way master plan and feasibility study.
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to approve the bid award to Kaizen Collaborative. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and Commissioners Steward, Gazaway, Cunningham, and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.
BID AWARD FOR A TANDEM DUMP TRUCK FOR THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
County Administrator King advised that the request to the Board is to consider approval of the bid award to Nextram Truck Center at the price of $123,344.91 for the purchase of a 2017 Mack dump truck for the Public Works Department.
Commissioner Gazaway made a motion to approve the bid award to Nextram Truck Center. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and Commissioners Cunningham, Gazaway, Steward, and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Sexton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
