Regular Meeting

Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:36 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from October 6, 2014 were presented for review and approval. Jeff Henderson made motion to approve minutes; seconded by David Mitchell. All voted aye.

Chairman Padgett informed HPC commission that DNR is in the process of scheduling a meeting to discuss entrance to Resaca Battlefield Park.

Projected opening of Battlefield Park is late 2015.

A monument project is underway to place another monument in Resaca honoring 126th New York.

Chairman Padgett was contacted by family of Dolphus Taylor, who is buried in cemetery on Pine Chapel, family will be donating photograph of Dolphus Taylor, who fought in Battle of Resaca.

Jeff Henderson has been working on a research project for Austin Brown, who donated $25,000 to Gordon County Historical Society. Mr. Brown’s family is part of the family who owned Tanner’s Ferry, Oostanaula/Herrington Bend area.

Jeff Henderson stated John Lay’s headstone, located in Chandler Cemetery, has been replaced/repaired. John Lay had bought first lot of land in the town of Calhoun.

David Mitchell stated he was contacted by the Daughters of the American Revolution, in reference to obtaining a list of any marked Revolutionary War soldiers that are buried in Gordon County. HPC briefly discussed possible locations of marked graves.

Jeff Henderson informed HPC that Matt Landry, Eagle Scout, who had assisted with Gideon cemetery clean up, has just left for a 2 year mission trip in France.

Betty Ann Surdykowski will bring copy of historical families listed in 150th Celebration of Gordon County to December meeting.

Adjournment

Next scheduled meeting is Monday, December 1, 2014 @ 5:30 p.m. at County Administration building. Jeff Henderson made motion to adjourn; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:30 p.m.
