Unfinished Business

Chairman Padgett stated County Ordinance Officer has gone door to door on the Chitwood Farm trying to locate structure that is on easement property. He was unsuccessful in locating property.

Fort Wayne and Resaca Battlefield Park has been heavily visited since weather has cooled off.

New Business

Chairman Padgett informed HPC members of City of Resaca Sewer project. Sewer line would potentially run partially through Fort Wayne property, coming at the railroad tracks and cut at an angle up towards Hwy 136. City of Calhoun would be completing the project. Chairman Padgett shared a copy of a historic preservation division documentation submitted by Aaron Parr, who stated there is no historic value on the property and is not eligible for National Register of Historic Places. He will follow up with Mr. Parr and file a protest on behalf of Friends of Resaca. Chairman Padgett spoke briefly about this project.

Gordon County along with Friends of Resaca is working on DNR Recreation Trail Grant. Gordon County has requested the bench project be included in the grant to utilize matching funds. Grant will be awarded in Spring 2017. Jeff Henderson questioned if Gordon County had layout/plan for grant monies awarded. Chairman Padgett stated grant would include concreting walking loops on two pull off trails, possibly place benches alongside and some additional concrete work down to first foot bridge.

Chairman Padgett stated Gordon County is working with Appalachian Regional Commission and has signed an agreement to hire Kaiser Collaboration, an agency which will conduct a study on linking Resaca Battlefield Site, Fort Wayne and Confederate Cemetery with a green belt and blue way trail. Once study is complete Gordon County Commissioners will have to move forward and see if SPLOST funds are available to complete the project.

Chairman Padgett stated we are still waiting a letter from Trust for Public Land in regard to 123rd marker to be placed on Chitwood Easement. Once letter is received it will be presented to Gordon County BOC.

Chairman Padgett stated a meeting with Mr. Rick Wood, with Trust for Public Land, John Ledbetter, John King and himself is scheduled for possibly late November.
