GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 19, 2013
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the main courtroom of the Gordon County Courthouse.
Chairman Hood called the meeting to order.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Fire Chief Dave Hawkins presented plaques for outstanding job performance to two firefighters, Lt. Hasty and Sgt. Disky for their work of about eight months preparing a virtual tour and design of the proposed new fire station on Cash and Redbud Roads.
SPECIAL WELCOME TO YOUTH LEADERSHIP CLASS AND INTRODUCTIONS
Former Chairman of the Gordon County Board of Commissioners, Judy Bailey, thanked the Board for welcoming the Youth Leadership Class and introduced to the Board the adult sponsors for the class. The students were asked to stand and introduce themselves and to tell what school they attend. Following the completion of the business portion of the Board meeting, the students were given an opportunity to ask questions of the Board members. Many students had questions and members of the Board gave answers and information to the students concerning their questions. The Board was pleased and very impressed by the type of questions asked and of the students’ apparent understanding and grasp of the information.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Hood asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session November 5, 2013, and the Regular Meeting November 5, 2013. Commissioner Steward made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.
ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT
County Attorney Smith advised the Board that Christy Blair with Environment Health was scheduled to do an inspection of the restroom facilities at the Resaca Battlefield Park. When she arrived, no one from the State was there and she was unable to gain access to the restrooms, so that will have to be rescheduled.
County Attorney also advised that our Building and Grounds personnel will be erecting the Christmas tree in front of the courthouse on Wednesday.
COMMISSIONERS’ REPORT
Commissioner Gazaway reported that he was in attendance at the Lunch with Technology, attended the Officer Promotion ceremony at the Fire Department, and the Community and Government Affairs Meeting.

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS
RE-APPOINTMENT TO THE REGION ONE EMS MEDICAL SERVICES COUNCIL FOR A TWO-YEAR TERM ENDING JANUARY 2016 FOR COURTNEY TAYLOR
County Attorney Smith advised that this is the re-appointment to the Region One EMS Medical Services Council for a two-year term ending January 2016 for Courtney Taylor.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to approve the re-appointment of Courtney Taylor. Commissioner Gazaway seconded the motion and Commissioners Cunningham, Steward, Gazaway, and Sexton voted aye. Motion passed.
RE-APPOINTMENT TO THE GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF ASSESSORS FOR A SIX-YEAR TERM ENDING DECEMBER 31, 2019 FOR JERRY BARTON
County Attorney Smith advised that this is the re-appointment to the Board of Assessors for a six-year term ending December 31, 2019. The recommendation comes to the Board from the Board of Assessors to re-appoint Jerry Barton.
Commissioner Steward made a motion to approve the re-appointment of Jerry Barton. Commissioner Cunningham seconded the motion and Commissioners Steward, Cunningham, Sexton, and Gazaway voted aye. Motion passed.
RE-APPOINTMENT TO THE GORDON COUNTY BOARD OF ASSESSORS FOR A SIX-YEAR TERM ENDING DECEMBER 31, 2019 FOR BOBBY HOUSE
County Attorney Smith advised that this is the re-appointment to the Board of Assessors for a six-year term ending December 31, 2019. The recommendation comes to the Board from the Board of Assessors to re-appoint Bobby House.
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to approve the re-appointment of Bobby House. Commissioner Steward seconded the motion and Commissioner Cunningham, Steward, Sexton, and Gazaway voted aye. Motion passed.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Cunningham made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Sexton seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
