1/12/09 Special Meeting Minutes
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Special Meeting Tuesday, January 12, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. in the Administration Building Conference Room.
Chairman Long called the meeting to order.
The Board discussed the distribution of the Local Option Sales Tax proceeds. Following a lengthy discussion, County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that the agreement with the City of Plainville for LOST proceeds has expired and needs to be renewed. Administrator Dowling informed the Board members that the contract before them for consideration is for the same amount of funding as before, this updated contract is for a term ending January 1, 2012.
Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the contract and allow the Chairman to sign on behalf of the Board. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Hood, Gordon, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
Chairman Long spoke with the City of Fairmount’s legal council, Mr. Bill Thompson, by cell phone where he was meeting with the City of Fairmount in a called meeting to discuss the LOST proceeds distribution. The Fairmount City Council asked Mr. Thompson to contact the Board Chairman with their request for distribution of their requested portion of the LOST proceeds. Several phone calls later the Board of Commissioners and the City Council of Fairmount reached an agreement for distribution of proceeds of LOST funds to the City of Fairmount. There was a consensus of the Board to agree to the distribution to the City of Fairmount of LOST proceeds of 3.0% for 2009, and 3.25% for the years 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the LOST Certificate of Distribution and allow the Chairman to sign. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioner Bailey, Gordon, Hood, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
Commissioner Hood made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Bailey seconded and all voted aye.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
