December 3, 2012


Chairman Padgett called the meeting to order at approximately 5:30 p.m., welcoming all in attendance. Minutes from November 5, 2012 were presented for review and approval. David Mitchell made motion to approve minutes; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye.

Unfinished Business

Resaca Battlefield and Fort Wayne projects are still underway. Chairman Padgett informed HPC members that the Civil War Times Magazine, largest civil war publication in United States, will publish an article in an upcoming issue in regards to the work at Resaca Battlefield.

Chairman Padgett left message with GIS department to obtain use of GPS unit to locate a couple cemeteries that were brought to the attention of the HPC.

R. Stanley Chambers stated Gordon County Historical society nominated new members at their last meeting.

Chairman Padgett stated renovation of doll room at Gordon County Historical Society should begin in the near future. Gordon County Historical Society’s open house is planned for Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 2 pm – 4 pm.

Streetscape project is continuing within City of Calhoun.

There was brief discussion to library renovations and research room within the library.

New Business

David Mitchell expressed interest in obtaining information on East Damascus Church, dated from 1840’s – 1850’s. Chairman Padgett stated the church is not listed on any historic registry.

Chairman Padgett spoke with Bobby Roe who has given permission to HPC to visit cemetery located on his property.

Adjournment

Chairman Padgett stated next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2013 @ 5:30 pm. R. Stanley Chambers made motion to adjourn; seconded by Betty Ann Surdykowski. All voted aye. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:41 pm.
