12/21/10 Work Session Minutes
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building.
Chairman Long called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.
The Board discussed each item on the Agenda and made no changes; three items were added during the meeting.
Chairman Long advised that there was a letter from the attorney for the Hospital Authority Board requesting that Nancy Nichols’ renomination be approved for reappointment to the Hospital Authority Board. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item to the Agenda for the Regular Meeting.
The Board discussed the Resolution to establish the minimum number of acres for property in a conservation use covenant. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item to the Agenda for the Regular Meeting.
County Attorney Hutchinson advised that there was a change to the first draft of the Ordinance Amendment for Outdoor Watering; County Administrator requests that the Code Enforcement Officer be the reporting officer for enforcement of the ordinance. There was a consensus of the Board to make this change to the draft amendment.
Louise McGowan with Dobbs & Company made the 2009/2010 annual audit presentation to the Board, she praised the Board and the financial staff. Ms. McGowan also commended the Board on a good job budgeting in this economic climate.
County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that Mr. Raymond Clark with Killian Clark, the architects for the building design of the Tallatoona facility is in attendance and has presented his design for approval by the Board. Administrator Dowling explained the design and asked for the design to be included for approval on the agenda. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item to the Agenda for the Regular Meeting.
Mr. Skip McNutt and Mr. Ernie Neal spoke to the Board requesting the County to prepare an application to the USDA for federal grant money to fund an historic mural of the Great Locomotive Chase. The County would also administer the grant money, should the grant be awarded. The grant would be in the amount of $99,000 for Mr. McNutt and Mr. Neal to create the painting of the mural and placement of the mural on an outdoor wall somewhere in Gordon County or inside the City of Calhoun. There was a consensus of the Board to move forward with a grant application.
Commissioner Gordon made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
