The Board of Commissioners met for the Work Session in the Main Courtroom of the Courthouse at 5:15 p.m.
Vice Chairman Steward called the meeting to order.
County Administrator Ledbetter explained the agenda items under the New Business items on the Agenda for the Regular Meeting and the rezoning application to be heard by the Board.
Ms. Louse McGowan with Dobbs and Company, the County’s auditors, came before the Board to present the Fiscal Year 2021 Audit. Ms. McGowan commented that the Audit looks really good for Gordon County.
Mrs. Beth Vaughn and Mrs. Judy Peterson with Keep Gordon County Beautiful Organization came before the Board. Mrs. Vaught spoke and introduced their organizations and talked about its purpose. Three things they want to work on – beautification, recycling and litter. Mrs. Peterson spoke about a grant they have received. The organization wishes to conduct a tire amnesty day on April 9, 2022 at Rock Bridge Church. They need, and are requesting the County’s support and permission to be the applicant to the EPD for the approval to hold the collection and recycling of the tires that are collected.
Administrator Ledbetter asked Mrs. Peterson if they have spoken with Republic out at the land field, in the County’s contract with Republic, they are required by contract to give the County a tire amnesty day. The location you have chosen is a really good thing, it’s central, versus having to go to the landfill. Mr. Ledbetter advised that he is a responsible person in his official capacity for the landfill. Is there anything required for him to sign for this, or do we just say that the Board of Commissioners is on board for this. Mrs. Peterson said that is a simple application and the (EPD) make it clear that they have to have the municipality agreement on this, as long as the county and city says yes to it, then everything is fine.
Administrator Ledbetter said let’s get a copy of that and put it on the agenda for the first meeting in January for the Board to approve and authorize his signing the application.
There being no further business, the Work Session adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
