1/06/09 Work Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held a Work Session Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration Building Conference Room.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

The Board discussed each item on the Agenda for the Regular Meeting and made no changes; several additional items were added to the Agenda later in the Work Session.

Chairman Long advised the Board that a letter from the attorney for the Gordon County Hospital Authority Board had been received requesting the Board to recommend re-appointments of Judy Howerton and Jim Brown to the Hospital Authority Board. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item to the Agenda for the Regular Meeting.

Ms. Sheryl Dunson with Santek, came before the Board to request an amendment to the contract between Gordon County and Santek whereby Santek would be given approval to use County owned equipment located at the landfill, at other locations managed by Santek in exchange for an additional $5,000 per year from Santek for leased equipment. There was a consensus of the Board to give the approval for the contract amendment to be prepared and then presented to the Board for consideration at the next Regular Meeting.

Mr. Garrett with S. Garrett and Company, the previously approved vendor for the Courthouse roof replacement bid, spoke to the Board regarding several alternates for material for this project. There was a consensus of the Board to add this item to the Agenda for the Regular Meeting for the Board approval of the alternates presented.

Newly elected Sheriff, Mitch Ralston, came before the Board to update the Board members on the progress of the administration of the Sheriff’s Department and progress for plans to occupy the new jail facility. Sheriff Ralston thanked the Board and their staff for the help given during the time of transition.

Commissioner Bailey made a motion to adjourn the Work Session. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
