1/06/09 Regular Session Minutes

The Gordon County Board of Commissioners held their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Administration Building.

Chairman Long called the meeting to order.

INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Invocation was led by Rev. John Allen and the pledge of allegiance were led by Chairman Long.

WELCOME
(election of chairman and vice chairman)
Chairman Long welcomed everyone to the meeting.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION
Chairman Long read the list of January employees and Commissioner Hood drew the name of Christy Dean for Employee of the Month for January.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Long asked if there were any additions, omissions, or deletions to the Minutes for the Work Session December 16, 2008, and the Regular Meeting December 16, 2008. Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the minutes. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and all voted aye. Minutes approved.

CONSIDERATION OF OLD BUSINESS

CONSIDERATION OF NEW BUSINESS

  • MALT BEVERAGE AND WINE LICENSE APPLICATION FOR MAPCO #3608
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is a malt beverage and wine license application for Mapco #3608. This is for a change of managers only and all paperwork is in order.
    Commissioner Gordon made a motion to approve the application for malt beverage and wine license. Commissioner Bailey seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Bailey, Hood and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed
  • MALT BEVERAGE AND WINE LICENSE APPLICATION FOR MAPCO #3633
    County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that this is a malt beverage and wine license application for Mapco #3633. This is for a change of managers only and all paperwork is in order.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the application for malt beverage and wine license. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Gordon, Bailey, Hood, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
  • APPOINTMENTS TO THE LIBRARY BOARD FOR TERMS ENDING 1/1/2011
    County Administrator Dowling advised that this is for two appointments to the Gordon County/Calhoun Library Board for three year terms ending January 1, 2011.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to re-appoint Wayne Minshew to the Calhoun/Gordon County Library Board and to appoint Virginia Gordon to the Board to fill a vacancy. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Hood Gordon, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
  • COURTHOUSE ROOF REPLACEMENT – APPROVAL OF ALTERNATES
    County Attorney Hutchinson advised the Board that S. Garrett and Company, the firm that was awarded the bid for the roofing at the Courthouse, and David Steel with Lord-Aeck-Sargeant, the architects, had earlier come before the Board to discuss four alternates for the roof bid. These alternates were known as alternates #1, #2, #3, and #4, this comes to the Board with recommendations from the architect to approve those four alternates. This would bring the total price for roofing of the courthouse to approximately $350.000.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion to approve the four alternates and to go forward with the roofing of the Courthouse. Commissioner Gordon seconded the motion and Commissioners Bailey, Gordon, Hood, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.
  • RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RE-APPOINTMENTS TO THE GORDON COUNTY HOSPITAL AUTHORITY BOARD
    County Administrator Dowling advised the Board that this is a recommendation to the Gordon County Hospital Authority Board for two re-appointments. Re-appointment of Judy Howerton and Jim Brown for terms of three years ending December 31, 2011.
    Commissioner Bailey made a motion for approval to recommend re-appointment of Judy Howerton and Jim Brown to the Gordon County Hospital Authority Board. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and Commissioners Hood, Gordon, Bailey, and Townsend voted aye. Motion passed.

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC – GENERAL
None

ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Bailey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Hood seconded the motion and all voted aye. There being no further business, meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
